Gleeson Constructors, LLC. designed and constructed the Iowa Cold Storage distribution center in Altoona, Iowa in eight months. This project consists of 90,200 s.f. of –10° freezer, +28°F cooler, blast cell, thaw room, inspection room and office area.
The storage freezer provides 6 levels of storage to accommodate Iowa Cold Storage’s various products. A total of 7,092 pallet positions are available in the freezer, and 2,772 pallet positions in the cooler. The 35° dock area is 60-feet in depth to provide efficient staging for shipping and receiving product.
All of the floors in the dock, freezer and cooler were finished with a dry shake hardener which provided a denser surface with increased abrasion and impact resistance while enhancing the flatness of the floor. This resulted in a durable floor well suited for high-stack forklift traffic.
Gleeson Constructors was invited back to construct an addition to the existing facility in 2005. The addition consisted of 85,700 sf of -15° freezer, +28°F cooler, blast cells, boxing room, rail dock and office area. Racking in the added freezer added 8,400 pallet positions - bringing the grand total storage to 18,264 positions.
