Smoked Meats Facility

Gleeson teamed up with Hormel Foods Corporation’s engineering team to replace a facility destroyed by fire in only a five month time frame. To accomplish the 40,000 square feet of production and shipping space, Gleeson and Hormel worked in a fast tracked, design-build setting, first working through the layout and flow of the facility, and then through all of the details. Gleeson crews worked 7 days a week from July to December and had the facility operational when Concept Foods’ new equipment arrived. This project presented great challenges in utilities available, limited local resources, and the extremely tight time frame. Fast paced projects like this one have become the hallmark of Gleeson Constructors.

The structure itself is precast concrete with insulated metal panel walls. The welfare and engine room areas are structural steel. This dual system played into the schedule, allowing earlier completion of the main structure. This addition also included a new central infrastructure for the facility, including a central Freon refrigeration system that can be converted to ammonia, new boilers, hot water systems and water softening capabilities. Also a part of this project was a large water storage area to facilitate fire suppression systems throughout the facility.

Gleeson Constructors was named as one of Hormel’s Partners in Excellence for their determination and completion of this fast paced project.
